To whom it may concern:

Our remodel project is being submitted for the ASID Hawaii Chapter Design Awards 2000. We have been living here for a little over a year now, and we are delighted. We have a steady stream of people interested in various aspect of the house, including architects and builders.

We wanted a custom home, solving all the problems and comfort issues we had identified over 23 years in the house. This involved tearing down a good portion of the existing structure. The architect left the project after doing the concept drawings, so the interior designer, the builder and ourselves were left to complete all the architectural details.

The design company became the aesthetic organizer of the project, working with us on basic space layout, and with the builder on what could physically be done within our budget. Beginning with a photo and measuring survey of our home, documenting every piece of furniture, decorative and art object we owned, these designers assessed and incorporated all of our personal preferences. They used existing built-in furnishings and even little hand painted tiles from the old house into the new design.

Their professionalism, adherence to schedule and budget helped alleviate the stress of moving out, losing our architect, re-designing and remodeling. We had a "theme" in mind of openness, water, and old Hawaii which they enhanced and carried off to the point that people who visit us now can only say "WOW!"

Sincerely,

Brian and Wendy Barbata
